Recent UT graduates obtain teaching positions

Several of our recent DMA graduates (some with an ABD status) are beginning their new teaching appointments this fall. Ian Dicke (DMA '12) is Assistant Professor of Composition (tenure-track) at the University of California, Riverside afer spending a year in Sweden on Fulbright. Zack Stanton (DMA '12) is Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition and Theory at  the University of Iowa.

Matthew Jackfert's (MM '13) work to be played by the West Virginia Symphony

West Virginia Symphony will perform On the Shores of Qingdao by MM candidate Matthew Jackfert during their final subscription concert of the 2013-2014 season. Jackfert's work shares the spotlight with Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. 

UT composers dominate the Lake George Music Festival Competition

Lake George Music Festival's composition competition announced its results, and the winner is UT alum Robert Honstein. Current MM student Egemen Kesikli is one of three finalists this year. It should be noted that all submissions were anonymous. 

Jared Beu's (BM '16) work for wind ensemble to be performed at the U of Wisconsin

The 2012 Tri-State Black Band at the Wisconsin-Superior Annual Tri-State Honor Band Festival will be performing the wind ensemble adaptation of Jared Beu's "Toward Sky’s End" with their clinician, composer and conductor Noah Taylor, at Thorpe Langley Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on October 18, 2012 at 7:15 PM. The original orchestral work was performed by Austin Symphony Orchestra last year.

Our own Robert Honstein (MM '07) was selected, by polling NPR and WQXR listeners, as one of 100 young composers under 40 years of age. It should be emphasized that Robert is WAY under 40!  
 

UT faculty composer Yevgeniy Sharlat is awarded a Fromm Music Foundation commission

Yevgeniy Sharlat is one of several composers to receive a Fromm Commission from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University. The commissioned work is for 2 pianos and will be premiered by LA Piano Duo

DMA student Gabriel Santiago wins the 2010 ASCAP Jazz Composer Award

DMA student Gabriel Santiago won the 2010 ASCAP Jazz Composer Award for his Northeast Impressions Suite for French horn, harp, and jazz orchestra. 

MM candidate Zackery Wilson's quartet performed by the Miro Quartet at the Templeton Symposium

MM candidate Zackery Wilson's "A Soul Still Yearns" for string quartet was commissioned and performed by the renowned Miró Quartet at the Templeton Symposium (Utopia Theatre) in October 2009. The UT School of Social Work hosted the function entitled "Holocaust Survivors: Stories of Resilience."
