DMA student Polina Nazaykinskaya's PASSACAGLIA ZERO (for clarinet, violin, viola, cello, and 4-hand piano) will be performed by Juventas Music Ensemble this season. The work will receive its Austin premiere at the October 4th CLUTCH concert.

When I Rise is a feature-length documentary about Barbara Smith Conrad, a gifted black music student at the University of Texas who is thrust into a civil rights storm that changes her life forever. Among the first African-Americans to be admitted to the university, she is cast in an opera to co-star with a white male classmate, fueling a racist backlash from members of the Texas legislature. When Barbara is expelled from the cast, the incident escalates to national news, prompting unexpected support from a pop superstar.

DMA student Andrew Sigler's Sparrows Jump Nine Sandpipers (for Pierrot Ensemble) was chosen by the Washington Composers Forum for multiple performances as part of Seattle's Simple Measures Spring concert series. In addition to the performances, Sigler participated in audience discussions about his work and was part of a roundtable discussion for Seattle public radio station KUOW's "Front Row Center"

DMA student Eli Fieldsteel's composition, Fantasy for Wind Symphony, was awarded first prize in the first annual Bandmasters Academic Society of Japan Competition for School Band. The piece was performed in Tokyo by the Kawagoe Sohwa Wind Ensemble, conducted by Sato Masato.
