Name
Benjamin Vogel
Biography

In an attempt to keep seven-year-old Benjamin Vogel out of trouble, his elementary school band director offered to teach him the electric bass and let him join the school concert band. The scheme was fairly successful, and since then Ben has flourished as a skilled composer of everything from orchestral music to jazz, and even an occasional bit of rock n’ roll.

A native of Spokane, WA, Ben began composing in high school and went on to graduate summa cum laude with a BM in Composition from University of the Pacific. There, his teachers included Robert Coburn and François Rose for composition, and Thomas Derthick for double bass. In addition to his focus on composition, Ben is an experienced guitarist and bassist; equally at home in classical, jazz and rock ensembles. He is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Composition at the University of Texas in Austin, where he is studying with Donald Grantham.
