Biography

Cassie Shankman (b. 1992) is a composer who studied piano and theory for several years in London, England with the Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music. She is a student of composition with a secondary focus in film at the University of Texas at Austin. She won third place in the Texas Music Teachers Association Original Composition Contest. Recently, Cassie has had three compositions commissioned as the opening number for plays in Chicago, and has recently written music for the Texas Student Television network. She also worked closely with Dragon Ball-Z’s composer, Bruce Faulconer at the CakeMix Recording studio in Dallas, Texas. She recently helped assist the orchestrator and composer for the new Terrence Malick film, "To the Wonder." During her years with the Southlake Carroll Jazz Band in Texas, Cassie was also a member of the 2009 Texas All-Region Jazz Ensemble, and the 2010 All-State Percussion Ensemble. She performed with Wycliffe Gordon in New York as a finalist with the Carroll Jazz Band in the Essentially Ellington competition, sponsored by Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Cassie has also been invited and attended the Grammy 2012 and 2013 Awards.
In addition to music, Cassie is a dedicated community service volunteer having the State of Texas flag flown at the capital in her honor, winning the 2009 Rotary Youth Leadership Award, and a past-recipient of the U.S. Senate Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
